My fans I'm getting some?
Feb. 9th, 2009 09:20 amSomeone wrote to me asking for writing advice. o_O
It was from the Sporking wiki, but they wrote me a very nice email about how they were concerned about their writing. They being seventeen thinking they weren't very good because they tried to write a novel and it was crap. They were also thinking about giving up writing because of this.
I offered them up some encouragement and told them about how the stuff I wrote at their age was also utter crap. Suggested they take some classes and start writing short stories instead of going full blast at a novel. I also recommended a book I find helpful.
The fact that they thought I was a good person to ask for writing advice sort of blows my little mind. It's not something I would think someone would do. It's flattering, but kinda scary. Giving advice after all is a dangerous thing. It feels weird, like I'm slowly crawling through this tunnel of wider renown.
My mind starts to fill with all sorts of different possibilities but I'm not sure which would be a good one or not and which is a pipe dream.
And what really gets me is that I'm not even a published author! (Fiction that is) so how can my claims to writing advice even be legitimate?
Dunno.
