SO!

Inheritance has come out. The last book in the Eragon Story.

I am not touching it until after November. The last thing I want is my brain to go all Paolini prose on me. I had a PDF copy... but it appears to have vanished on me... ;|

In the meantime; the chapter titles and some commentary.

Chapter One: Into the Breach Sounds like the beginning of Henry V's big speech
Chapter Two: Hammerfall
Chapter Three: Shadows on the Horizon
Chapter Four: King Cat Wonder what the differences are from the previously released one
Chapter Five: Aftermath
Chapter Six: Memories of the Dead
Chapter Seven: What Is a Man? Oddly, Perhaps, my brain goes to "does it have a penis?"
Chapter Eight: The Price of Power $9.99!
Chapter Nine: Rudely into the Light
Chapter Ten: A Cradle Song Oh. Maybe that poor woman who's been overly pregnant will give birth here.
Chapter Eleven: No Rest for the Weary trite.
Chapter Twelve: Dancing With Swords
Chapter Thirteen: No Honour, No Glory, Only Blisters in Unfortunate Places Okay. This chapter title is completely out of place with the rest of them. It's too... Monty Pyton-ish while the others are serious.
Chapter Fourteen: Mooneater er...?
Chapter Fifteen: Rumours and Writing
Chapter Sixteen: Aroughs I don't even know what that is!
Chapter Seventeen: Dras-Leona
Chapter Eighteen: A Toss of the Bones FATE
Chapter Nineteen: My Friend, My Enemy I have a feeling this one deals with Murtagh.
Chapter Twenty: A Flour Made of Flame And THAT doesn't even make any sense! How can flour be made of flame? It just... doesn't... work!! A FLOWER maybe... but not Flour
Chapter Twenty One: Dust and Ashes
Chapter Twenty Two: Interregnum
Chapter Twenty Three: Thardsvergûndszmal Gesundheit
Chapter Twenty Four: The Way of Knowing
Chapter Twenty Five: A Heart-to-Heart I love you. I love your meat.
Chapter Twenty Six: Discovery
Chapter Twenty Seven: Decisions
Chapter Twenty Eight: Under Hill and Stone
Chapter Twenty Nine: To Feed a God
Chapter Thirty: Infidels on the Loose
Chapter Thirty One: The Tolling of the Bell And the RINGING and the Tinging of the BEllS Bells Bells Bells...shut up.
Chapter Thirty Two: Black-Shrike-Thorn-Cave Probably Saphira's POV here, Still makes no sense
Chapter Thirty Three: Hammer and Helm Dwarves I bet.
Chapter Thirty Four: And the Walls Fell
Chapter Thirty Five: By the Banks of Lake Leona
Chapter Thirty Six: The Word of a Rider
Chapter Thirty Seven: Conclave of Kings
Chapter Thirty Eight: A Maze Without End
Chapter Thirty Nine: Fragments, Half-Seen and Indistinct
Chapter Forty: Questions Unanswered Noo. We want them to be answered!
Chapter Forty One: Departure
Chapter Forty Two: The Torment of Uncertainty
Chapter Forty Three: The Hall of the Soothsayer
Chapter Forty Four: On the Wings of a Dragon traveling chapter, maybe?
Chapter Forty Five: The Sound of his Voice, The Touch of his Hand Now, this is probably not going to be from Eragon's POV, but since it is ERAGON'S story, my mind can't help wandering down them slashy places.
Chapter Forty Six: Small Rebellions
Chapter Forty Seven: A Crown of Ice and Snow This reminds me of GRR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire for some reason.
Chapter Forty Eight: Burrow Grubs This isn't going to be an ants chapter, is it?
Chapter Forty Nine: Amid the Ruins
Chapter Fifty: Snalglí for Two
Chapter Fifty One: The Rock of Kuthian
Chapter Fifty Two: And All the World a Dream Unfortunately, not.
Chapter Fifty Three: A Question of Character He has none. NEXT!
Chapter Fifty Four: The Vault of Souls
Chapter Fifty Five: Lacuna, Part the First
Chapter Fifty Six: Lacuna, Part the Second ... Okay. Why does he have part the first and part the second? At least right after each other? I could see maybe them being several chapters apart, but if they're right after each other, I wonder what he's using to mark a chapter break?
Chapter Fifty Seven: Return
Chapter Fifty Eight: The City of Sorrows
Chapter Fifty Nine: War Council
Chapter Sixty: A Matter of Duty
Chapter Sixty One: Fire in the Night Blinded by the light!!! Shut up.
Chapter Sixty Two: Over the Wall and Into the Maw
Chapter Sixty Three: The Storm Breaks
Chapter Sixty Four: That Which Does Not Kill... Rory makes him stronger. That which kills Rory also makes him stronger.
Chapter Sixty Five: The Heart of the Fray
Chapter Sixty Six: The Name of All Names this is probably when we discover Galby's True Name
Chapter Sixty Seven: Muscle Against Metal
Chapter Sixty Eight: The Gift of Knowledge
Chapter Sixty Nine: Death Throes Galby dies?
Chapter Seventy: A Sea of Nettles
Chapter Seventy One: Heir to the Empire Roan, maybe.
Chapter Seventy Two: A Fitting Epitaph
Chapter Seventy Three: Pieces on a Board
Chapter Seventy Four: Fírnen
Chapter Seventy Five: A Man of Conscious
Chapter Seventy Six: Blood Price That old business way back in book two between Roran and that lady who threatened to kill him.
Chapter Seventy Seven: Promises, Old and New
Chapter Seventy Eight: Leave-Taking And this probably relates to that vision thing that Angela had waaaay back in book one.

Ss...Ss-s-seventy eight chapters?!

Yee-yup.

However, I don't know how long the chapters are.

I forget how long the book itself is (too damn long), but even going by an 800 page standard, it's:

...just barely little more than 10 pages per chapter. So only five physical pages of book.

Maybe it's the Da Vinci cheat of "And the chapters are short, so it makes you feel smart for getting through them so fast."

Yeah. I was thinking short chapters too. That has got to be the only reason why he has that "part one" and "Part two" chapters.

Oh, wow, a lot of those titles remind me of other works of fiction. This is probably not a good thing.

No. I don't think so.

You mean, like Heir to the Empire? Because naming something "Heir to the Empire" and marketing it to sci-fi/fantasy nerds might make them recall, I dunno, the first book of the expanded Star Wars universe?

Hammerfall

Oh, hey, that's one of my top 57 favorite German fantasy metal bands! I have this one CD of theirs where all the lyrics are in English and they're about knights and battles and dragons and I think they mention Jerusalem . . .

. . . Either that or it was the name of the album. It sounded a lot like every other German fantasy metal band ever. (I still liked it, though.)

YOUR GUESSES ARE HILARIOUSLY OFF BASE

(also, I totally made the same mistakes)

And now I shall spoil it all for you and ruin your enjoyment hopes of keeping Paolini-free

S-P-O-I-L-E-R-S

Chapter Four: King Cat Wonder
Rejoice. Eragon no longer hallucinates. And... that's it.
Chapter Sixteen: Aroughs
is a town
Chapter Eighteen: A Toss of the Bones
No FATE involved. None. Nill. Zero.
Chapter Nineteen: My Friend, My Enemy
Now, see, I also thought there would be Murtagh here, but no, it's another lousy Roran chapter. With plenty to go.
Chapter Twenty: A Flour Made of Flame
Paolini got his cause and effect backwards. See, flour makes flame. Or at least explosions. (I already saw this trick in another book.)

.... actually, this is as far as I got. SPOILER: this book sucks

Hahah, most of the titles are sound so much High Fantasy Airplane Saga-cliche they hurt. And then the one with the Unfortunate Blisters comes out of nowhere. Rolling on floor laughing, here. XD

"A Man of Conscious"

Nooooo. NO. PLEASE tell me it was you who did the misspelling there. Please.

Oh. That was totally me. I can't spell conscience. It usually takes me several tries.

There are too many chapters! I read it the day after it came out. It was...unimpressive, to say the least. Paolini has, unfortunately, not become any better as a writer.

I think he was trying to make more chapters to look more impressive.

Most likely. Although I fail to see what he thought was impressive about chapter titles such as "No Honour, No Glory, Only Blisters in Unfortunate Places"...I agree with it sounding Pythonesque. Which seems to be something Paolini enjoys, considering his references to the killer rabbit of caerbannog.
