I do exist!

I saw the Help and the latest Doctor Who episode "Lets Kill Hitler" last night. Both were very good and, of course, very different.

This was an entertaining film. It hit all the right beats though I was able to guess a lot of the plot points. But this is one of those instances where it didn't detract from the film. The characters were engaging and even the antagonist was sympathetic.

I can't talk to the accuracy of the portrayal of the circumstances. I wasn't alive at the time, I wasn't in the location at the time and I have done no research at the time. While I was at dinner after seeing the movie - I went to see it with the family and some of my dad's friends - I got two different opinions on it. One was that it was accurate and the other that it wasn't. Make of that what you will.

It was, however, very "shiny" for lack of a better term. Everything was nice and clean. The ending was nice and clean. Justice was served. I guess it wasn't supposed to be super realistic. It was supposed to be a fantasy version of the South and what it was like.

Still it was an enjoyable movie. "Good" triumphed over "evil" and the good got happish endings.

Now this was a confusing yet fun episode. I need to watch it again.

I liked how when Mels showed up as the Best Friend the Doctor was just as confused as to her appearance as I'm sure the audience was. I thought it was some sort of random shoe-horning in of a new character. But as soon as I heard her name was Mels I had a feeling that she was Melody - River Song.

Watching young River act so completely different than the River we know was very interesting. Alex Kingston did a good job here.

Rory punch Hitler and then putting him in the cupboard was awesome. Rory's getting awesome. The following proves it:

Some questions thoughts:

When Melody gave the Doctor her remaining regenerations I bet that's what they're going to use to get the Doctor to have more than his thirteen regenerations. I'm going to say that she has added about ten more regenerations for him.

What was Melody between her regeneration in 1959 to the 1990s? It's not like she could have stayed a little girl, could she? Because she grew up with Rory and Amy. Maybe the Silence took her back and did stuff to her? I WANT ANSWERS DAMN IT. It feels like a plot hole but I trust the Moffet and know that he has a plan. Though! She was able to regenerate from a younger woman in her twenties to an older woman in her forties. BUT she also said that the last time she regenerated was in the alley way in New York (I think it was) so again confusion.

Sigh.

Oh well.

Answers will come.

Eventually.

I am trying to come up with an idea for a post-apocalyptic story with a hopeful ending. I saw an anthology that I would like to submit to. Poking brain meats but they are being slow. I think part of the problem is that I don't have a schedule or routine and that leaves me with a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. I spending too much energy worrying about what I'm supposed to be doing and what is going to happen instead of being creative.

That was one good thing for the job, at least.

There is a bit of hope. On Tuesday I'm starting a graphic design class. That would give me some structure, even if it's one day a week.

I get a free bus pass for all the Santa Monica buses so I'm thinking about trying to take the bus to class. There's a bus stop about ten-fifteen minute walk from my place I could get to and then it's about a half hour on the bus. I figure it'd safe money and parking hassle. And I know I wouldn't be getting on the wrong bus or missing a stop.

Taking buses always make me nervous, but if it's a shuttle, that should be okay. It'll save a little bit on gas, too. Though I think this semester it won't make too much of a difference; in later semesters it might.

I haven't seen "The Help," but I've been following some of the controversy. I would be curious to see what you think of something like this article after seeing the movie:

LJ thought your comment was Spam. Probably the link.

Anyway!

I would say that the movie makes everything very glossy. Can't say anything about the book. The movie almost touches what the article was talking about but then shies away from it.

Spoilers ahead!
Well, according to one of the interviews (or was it one of the confidentials), the writers are sure they've killed the Doctor for good now (when he gets shot in Utah), so that's it, after we see him loop around to that again, time-wise. Which I think is going to turn out to be bulls**t but that's just me.

She regenerated from ginger Melody Pond, in Day of the Moon, at the very end. She was the girl in the space suit, then turned up in NY in 1970, got shot and regenerated. Apparently into Mels. Which would have made her in her 40s when she met her parents as kids.

The likelihood of Eleven being the last doctor is utter bullshit, if only because it's too big of a cash cow to let go of. Steven Moffat has admitted that he's a lying liar that lies.

"When questioned about why he lied, at the following Q&A session, the gleeful Scot admitted: "I lie repeatedly and continually. It's by far the best way of communicating." "

Or was there a regeneration between Melody to Mels? Or... something.

Some of the Blue Buses can be crowded, especially #7. #5 isn't as crowded, but the drivers are sometimes late or ignore people standing at the stop. (That happened to me, last Saturday.) I use #7 to get the main campus and #5 to get to the AET campus.
