Great review! I remember the Batman: Animated series fondly and the two Justice League series were fantastic as well. I saw some of Batman Beyond but not all of it. I agree, the dynamic between Terry and Bruce was one of the best things about it. I forget why I didn't see more. It might have been around the time I stopped watching most TV (at least in the morning, currently we've given up cable altogether) and I think the random high school plots were what lost part of my interest. That and the style was similar but distinct enough that it bugged me a little. I should probably see if I can find the series on Netflix or something though. I can't recall if I saw the movie either...
As for being related to Bruce, I think the only reason they did that is because the comics had a bad habit of doing that too. I know Huntress and I think the current Batman are both children of Bruce. :I
