bits of kippur
Sep. 25th, 2010 11:31 amI'm at my parent's house and the birdy is listening to the Beatles and chirruping along. I started singing 'A Hard Day's Night' which I shall admit was done enthusiastically if not in tune (Funnily enough I had a dream last night when I was in a piano class for some reason...) while making breakfast and he sang along with me except in the parts where he squawked at me for hitting the wrong notes. So, I've put on the Beatles for him to listen to and he's enjoying it. A few songs he's listened to quietly, but the more bouncy ones he bobs and bounces and chirrups to.
He's got good taste.
Yesterday we went to services at Chabad for Sukkot. While having lunch in the Sukkah I started talking to this guy who works in the TV industry as a writer type person. He's being story editor now for a mid-season replacement for Sony.
I introduced him to the concept of fan fiction.
He was flabbergasted.
At first he thought I meant that the fans were writing scripts on speculation. I managed to dissuade him of this notion and I don't think he could figure out why someone would write fan fiction. He couldn't wrap his mind around it, thinking it was crazy. I told him to google fan fiction and see what comes up.
I really hope he doesn't.
It might break his poor brain.

Date: 2010-09-25 06:51 pm (UTC)I was workshopping a novel about Icarus and Daedalus set in the modern southwest, after the fall. The feedback I got? Yeah, "nobody does buddy movies anymore, sad but true." Also, "Hunter S. Thompson is dead, you know."

Date: 2010-09-25 06:56 pm (UTC)You know, it reminds me of a story I read in a book about things studio excs sent to producers. It involved the pilot for Deep Space Nine.
They sent back notes saying that people wouldn't know that Sisko wasn't black because he didn't talk like a black man.
Think about that for a moment.
Yeah. I don't think I'd do well in Hollywood.

Date: 2010-09-26 02:40 am (UTC)... but there's not enough action and so on... so they made a new episode as the 'pilot' and the original became some sort of special flashback episode later on.
