I just found out someone I know is being shipped to Iraq.

I can't really say how I feel about it because it doesn't feel real yet.

They'll be alright, though, I'm sure. I know plenty of people who have been to Iraq and Afghanistan and the worst problems they faced were being really fucking cold at night in the desert and a couple mortar strikes in the distance.

My ex went to Iraq. Apparently not a lot happened while he was there; mostly boredom and heat. Fortunately, it's not ALL suicide bombers and kidnappings.

I know two people who have gone to Iraq/Afghanistan and come back whole. This may be a bloody, idiotic war, but there's a pretty high percentage rate of them coming home a-okay.

As everyone else said, the amount of dead American soldiers is minimal and heavily exaggerated by the media, there are far more Iraqi casualties than American ones.
