kippurbird: (What goes on in Kippur's head)

My brain is so weird sometimes.

I woke up this morning with an essay idea. How the death of Morgan in Turn Coat signals a shift of focus in the Dresden Files.

Some people get fan fiction ideas, I get fan essay ideas.

Wrist is tentatively feeling better. I'm going to try and get some note type things done and work on the cat in the goblin market story.

In regards to the twitter/facebook thing. I think I'm going to get a twitter and not the Facebook because, well, Facebook scares me. But twitter is kinda fun. I shall call it twitter sporkings and twitter while I spork. Though I don't know how entertaining "MUST KILL" would be.

Are you going to post your essay here? I just finished reading Changes and would to love to see your thoughts how Morgan's death led to everything that just happened.

If I write it, I shall. I haven't read Changes yet. My roommate lent her copy to another friend and I will have to wait until it comes back. But I have a vague idea of the plot.

Plus the interesting thing about the title of the book. Usually they're two words in a sort of pun relating to the story. I think my favorite one is "Dead Beat". However in Changes the title is, as it is seen, only one word. That word is change. Thus indicating the complete shifting of focus of the books into something a lot larger in scope than just Chicago. The fact that Changes also takes place somewhere else for part of it (I don't know how much yet) also is an indication of the shift in focus...

Um... I think I'm going to go open a google doc now.

I don't want to give anything away and let you have the chance to enjoy it all yourself, but yeah there was not a single better title for the book. The scope that Butcher took on for the book was very impressive and while it did have a few are you kidding me WTF moments, for the most part it was amazing. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

He did have Harry ride a T-Rex dinosaur in Dead Beat which is pretty WTF-amazing. But I'm guessing you mean something else?

It was more along the lines of Ok Jim did you really need to do that to Harry? Was that really necessary?

More like author's crash test dummy.

Makes you wonder how bad Jim's year was that he felt the need to do all that.

I wonder if he was deliberately doing the reverse of certain other urban fantasy authors, who avoid killing off characters or having anything permanently bad happen to their characters.

I also think he's cleaning the slate -- erasing all that we've known, so he can do something different in future.

And drop a brick on his head, set fire to his underwear...
