kippurbird: (Zombies! The answer to everything!)

I'm barely into chapter three of Death God Rising and I've already got an idea for the next book. I don't think this should be allowed.

Anyway, next book idea: Something happens to cause the sun to be 'blotted out' turning the world to eternal night. This is a boon to the creatures of the night, the question is which creatures of the night are responsible for it? Culprits could be the dark elves, the vampires, other assorted night creatures. No one is taking credit for it, everyone is taking advantage of it.

I got the idea while writing chapter three. Theo was complaining about having to be diurnal when his body insists that he's nocturnal. His father got his powers from the moon spirit goddess thingy when he took upon the aspect of being a death god, his brother Ash got the aspects of being the moon spirit itself. Also, Theo's mother was a priestess of Ash's. (Much to Ash's annoyance she turn him down for his brother.) So Theo has a lot of night time woojie going on which would make him more inclined to be up and around during the night. Unfortunately, the rest of the world does not work like that. He has to wear sunglasses a lot to protect his eyes as they're light sensitive.

Idk, reminds me of the background to the Darkstalkers OVA, where one of the main characters, a vampire, blacks out the sun and takes over and it causes all the darkstalkers to come out into the open and screws everything up for the humans.

Never heard of it.

In this case though it'd be the Bad Guy who'd have done it as opposed to the protagonist, which is what it sounds like there.

I don't have much more yet.

Blocking solar energy would cause a massive plunge in temperature until virtually all life was extinguished on Earth - nocturnal or not. Unless this is one of those "it's magic!" moments.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Likely it would be "it's magic" moment because the whoever it was that did it would want to actually be around to avail itself to the effects.

I was going to mention what anon did because I've seen this done before and just about every time no one does anything about it, I've seen intelligent audiences get turned off. Sure, the LCD will be fine with it, but as it is, you write above that level, so you might really hit problems with it.

Really, if you're using magic anyway, whoever did it could be capable of surviving even in those temperatures. I think this might really need a solid background and justification for life still existing.

Oh quite. This is just like the first bunny bite. It hasn't been nurtured or anything at all. If/when I do get around to writing it, such things will be taken into consideration.

The next book? Is that it? *snort*

You should really follow the antics of [livejournal.com profile] seanan_mcguire

Before she was finished the first book, she had plot outlines for the next SIXTEEN or so.

In that series alone.

In addition to 4+ other trilogies.

Book 2 in her main series is out in a couple weeks. She's working on Book 5, as #3-4 are already done and turned in to the editor.

Book 1 in her second series is in galley proofs. She's working on #2, and has an outline for 3.

Book 1 in her third series is turned in to the Agent, and is being shopped around. Book 2 is being started.

This is on top of a serial for a magazine and various anthology short stories and the Velveteen short stories.

She says it keeps her from being bored.

I'm not sure SHE knows how she does it.

Just that she MUST do it.

I've been LJfriends with her for years now. Best person on LJ by far.

That... is so impressively scary, I now feel almost completely inadequate. I think I'll go curl up in a corner and wrack my brains for a bit...
