Some holiday spirit.

People suck balls.
I mean really.
Suck balls.
My brother went on a hike last night. He likes going on hikes.
They ditched him.
In the dark. In the middle of nowhere. He was on the trail, they were ahead of him and he called out to them -screamed- for them to wait and they kept on going.
So, there he was. Alone in the dark with no sense of direction.
He called my parents, but he had no idea where he was. He has terrible sense of direction. Non-existent. Which is of course even worse in the dark. Thankfully he was able to get to the trail head. But then he had no idea where he was so he couldn't call a cab and tell them where they should pick them up.
Thankfully he was able to get to the exit and get picked up.
But yeah.

Date: 2009-12-24 09:13 pm (UTC)If they were adults, or knew in advance about his navigation difficulties, though, it's more inexcusable.

Date: 2009-12-24 09:38 pm (UTC)Even if, for whatever reason, they had a problem with your brother being on the hike, the time to ditch him would have been at the start. It is most assuredly "unprofessional" to lose one of your hikers--in dark or dangerous conditions, it's expected to have headcounts every so often, and if they somehow failed to notice your brother's cries for help, the next headcount should have triggered a search for him.

That's.
...
I honestly don't know what to think. Except that was a pretty dick move on their parts. >(

Date: 2009-12-25 04:30 am (UTC)The hike leader should be fired. The people who ignored him should be flogged. And a complaint against the company should be lodged with the local BBB.

Date: 2009-12-25 06:40 am (UTC)You don't ditch people. That's batshit insane, immoral, and possibly illegal (if you're a professional hiking group). I'm pretty sure they could've been held liable if something happened to him. Which, thankfully it didn't. They might still be in trouble for ditching him in the middle of nowhere, though.
