They put him in lock-up.

Let me expand.

They put him in involuntary lock up which means that he can't leave until they say so and if he wishes to leave earlier he has to go to court. Not even my parents can get him out.

On April 8th, I tried to jump out of a moving car to avoid participating in an argument with my father. I didn't care if it killed me; in fact, at that moment, I hoped it would. The next day, scared shitless at what I tried to do, I checked myself into a psychiatric hospital. They told me my stay would be three days or less. I ended up being there a week.

I learned a lot about my depression and anxiety problems, as well as how to recognize their symptoms and how to better cope with them. I also met a lot of great people there who helped me realize that I'm by no means the only person in the world struggling with those kinds of issues. All in all, it was good for me.

I can only hope that your brother has a similar positive experience, and that he can find the desire to eventually overcome his demons.

Don't worry about it? He's getting psychiatric help he needs, and the odds of the hospital keeping him forever in order to harvest his liver for transplant victims is really very low.
