Fan Brats! I <3 them!

So, Seduction got another review. This time from a Vampirebooklover. They said:

What was that? Edward is not a stalker nor will he ever be. He realy cares
for Bella and isn't trying to play with her. Why would Bella ask him to drink
her blood? She wants to be a vampire not dead.

Mah reply:

I'm afraid we do have a bit of a differing opinion on the matter of Edward and his stalkering. I believe that he is a stalker because he exhibits all the signs of the classical stalker. Also "loving" and "caring" about someone is one of the reasons why a person stalks another.

If you note, it takes place before Bella knows how Meyers Vampires are made, so it's a logical assumption that she would ask for him to take her blood.

Finally vampires = dead.

Finally vampires = dead.

Unless you're a White Court vampire in The Dresden Files, remember. They're born, not made.

But yeah, in most cases, "vampire" equals "supernaturally re-animated corpse."

Or the Red Court -- they're aren't so much dead as horribly mutated monsters. (Unless I missed something)

I agree. My reason for not including Red Courts in that description is that Susan Rodriguez described what she was in Death Masks:

They're all like me."

"You mean infected?"

"Infected. Half-turned. Half-human. Half-dead. There are a lot of ways to say it."

If a half-turned Red Court vampire gives one of the names for her condition as half-dead--well, Red Courts aren't the dried up re-animated corpses that Black Courts are. But apparently they aren't alive as humans are either.

So "horribly mutated giant hairless bat-things that wear fleshmasks to pass as human but aren't exactly alive as we know it" is probably the closest description of the Red Court. In any case, they're in a limbo between the Black Court and the "born alive and human, change into incubi and succubi later" White Court.

Ah, true. It's been awhile since I read that book, but I was pretty sure that they mutated rather than "dying" as the BC do, since one doesn't usually describe "half-human," "infected" and "half-dead" as being the same thing.

She might just consider herself dead in her humanity, since they apparently lose that. It would be interesting to ask the author bout that detail...

I have not met a White Court vampire yet having only read a few novels in the series. As my roommate has most of them, I'm hoping to raid them.

Ah, you're in for a treat. They're pretty cool in a ruthless underhanded kind of way, and the third book introduces one of the best characters in the whoooole series.

I would argue they don't really die, they just become petrified*. Also, the heart must beat through the entire process or the transformation fails. Therefore they aren't reanimated corpses at all but venomous stone people who drink blood.

Anyway, that's just splitting hairs on my part. Kippur, please, please, PLEASE spork the rest of the series, or at least Breaking Fail. I want to read you ripping it a new one SO BAD.

*Meyer said (http://www.twilightlexicon.com/?p=60): "They sparkle because they have turned to substance that is somewhat like diamond. Their bodies have hardened, frozen into a kind of living stone. Each little cell in their skin has become a separate facet that reflects the light. These facets have a prism-like quality; they throw rainbows as they glitter." (emphasis mine)

Because dead things aren't sexy. Living stone, living stone that drinks blood... that's sexy.

Venomous blood-sucking stone people. I love that.

And does Meyer realize how unspeakably dumb that sounds? Especially since such a creature, even if it could exist, would be constantly having slapstick misadventures due to, say, a chair not being strong enough to support its butt.

Argh, fangirls. This is just like when I posted my Twilight parody at ff.net and got a completely incoherent flame from some braindead: http://www.fanfiction.net/r/4469642/

I wrote back and basically said "thanks for giving me the best laugh I've had all day!"

Not quite related but I thought everyone here might like to know... Borders had midnight parties for the release of the Twilight DVD. And I think at least a hundred people showed up for the one I work at. Might have been more coming in too but I fortunately got off work before 11PM. It was frightening how many gathered for the trivia bit and I'm glad I wasn't there (or ignoring) the conducted discussion that was to come after. I hid by doing recovery in the magazines and kids section (and helping find stuff) until I could go but they were kinda loud at points... XD

They had one at Hot Topic too. I didn't go but I talked to the nice worker there. She wanted to know if I wanted to come. I politely declined.

Mmm... stone vampires?

I was sure I red something similar somewhere.

First of all, does anyone know if it's canonical that vampires are living stones or similar?

Second: if not, then hear this. There is a novel by Tim Powers (I don't remember the title, going to search) in wich a weird mix of vampires and lamias suck the blood of etc. etc.
And the lamia-vampire IS A STONE.

Tell me, how do you call this?

It's canonical, yes. Sparklepire cells are made of some hard stonelike stuff (it's what makes them sparkly!).

And possibly plagiarism? The thing is though that Meyer said she never read any Vampire books. She prides herself on it.

Breathe deeply, and imagine what Draccy (Stoker's original!) would do to that wussy sparklepire Edward. He'd toss him to the brides and forget about him.

Reminds me of Terry "I've never read Tolkien!" Goodkind. Because the best way to write a genre book is to avoid other books in that genre like the plague!

Seriously, she just wants to sound all unique and groundbreaking. Who buys it?

Hrmmm. It's not plagiarism unless she stole some really defining details. Of course, it's possible she liked the idea and borrowed it, then went into great depths to try and "explain" the way her vampires work in order to make some distinctions. Tim Powers isn't a name that I think is really huge, except maybe with people who read lots of fantasy, so she could easily feign ignorance.

This is very interesting though. I think you could be onto something. The book looks to be out of print but Amazon has
lots of copies under various sellers. The only question is did she read it? I think it's very possible but I couldn't say for sure without having read his book as well.

"loving" and "caring" are NOT reasons why someone becomes a stalker. Stalking is about obsession and delussion that are rationalized to be love by a mentaly unstable or possesive person. Book Edward is a stalker, but you wrote him as a predator who feings his feelings to attract Bella, so he's not a classical stalker in you fic. It's a good fic; I very much like it, but that line in your reply is really out of place.

I think I was referring to book Edward with that line. I don't remember now. XD
