I finally figured out what I'm going to write for NaNo: The Jono/Alec fluff piece. It's going to be from Jono's POV; at this point at least, and I think it would be interesting to get into his head. Jono's a right bastard, prick and all around not so pleasant to be. He has an extreme sense of self entitlement and in many ways he has the right to be, as he's the most important person in the city. He's very egotistical.
The only person who's gotten away with not treating him like that has been Alec. They went to school together and often competed. Jono ended up being the top of his class, Alec following around second or third. But that was mostly because Alec's potential/being an element wizard. He just wasn't really made to focus on just one element. They've also been mostly good friends when they were younger, if also rivals. Knowing Jono when he was nothing, knowing that in terms of family standings, Alec is much higher up in the food chain, as well as also being special (Jono is the Oracle, Alec can control all four elements) gives Alec the ability to ignore all of Jono's grandstanding.
This I think is one of the things that attracts Jono to Alec, at least initially. He sees trying to bend Alec to his will and wants as a challenge. Of course discovering that Alec is an equal and a good companion because of that most likely is the thing that changes his attraction towards Alec.
At least, that's what I think will happen.
Oh, and I'm sure there'll be some sort of subplot. It feels like there might.
