Thought about an essay. About Twilight's use of the Other and it's encouragement for complacency in potentially abusive relationships. Dunno.

You should do it.

One of the most disturbing aspects of some romance novels and movies is the conditioning of young women and men to accept abusive behaviours in the name of 'love'.

Twilight (and quite a few vampire novels) are particularly awful in that respect. The sexual and spiritual danger that the vampire represented in classic myths and literature is almost entirely missing, and what's left are actions, cleansed of intended harm, that are supposed to be 'romantic'. Possessive behavior, stalking, love-at-first-sight and mate-guarding behaviour should not be seen as 'a sign of his love for me'!

I really like your take on most things; an article on that would be appreciated.

Do it!

You know you want to. :D
And think of all the readers, 'cause even with the sporking Twilight is bad enough to leave one with a bad taste in the mouth..

I want to read that essay. When you think about it, a lot of supposedly "romantic" relationships fit the criteria for abusive. There was a YKTTW on TvTropes a while ago that described that.

In other news, have you heard of this yet? http://community.livejournal.com/lj_nanowrimo/470.html
