Date: 2008-10-24 05:49 pm (UTC)One of the most disturbing aspects of some romance novels and movies is the conditioning of young women and men to accept abusive behaviours in the name of 'love'.
Twilight (and quite a few vampire novels) are particularly awful in that respect. The sexual and spiritual danger that the vampire represented in classic myths and literature is almost entirely missing, and what's left are actions, cleansed of intended harm, that are supposed to be 'romantic'. Possessive behavior, stalking, love-at-first-sight and mate-guarding behaviour should not be seen as 'a sign of his love for me'!
I really like your take on most things; an article on that would be appreciated.
Do it!
