Oct. 24th, 2008 09:08 amYesterday was spectacularly crap-tastic. It was one of those days were all sorts of little things go wrong and make it one big headache.
First? My ears, they still hurt and as I'm out of the antibiotics and steroids it means that they didn't work. Then while I leave on time, I end up being late because there's a brush fire in the Sepulveda pass. For those who aren't up on Los Angeles freeways systems, the Sepulveda pass is the only way to get from the west side to the valley and there is only the 405 freeway and Sepulveda Blvd. The street had been closed off for fire trucks and other safety things. I try to call up my mom so she call call in work. See Wednesday my phone died and so we used the replacement my dad got on Ebay a while ago. All my phone numbers were on the first phone so I didn't have the work phone number yet.
The phone is not making out going calls.
So, I get to work late. Fortunately a lot of people were late.
I get to work and one of the student workers has been given a task that is above her level of competency so she comes to me with questions that I feel are stupid and I have to remind myself that just because I got it within three tries and can now recite the steps without even looking doesn't mean that everyone else can. A co-worker, on the other hand, I feel justified in getting pissed off at.
He uses the work phone as his own personal answering machine. I got a call from the fridge replacement program to confirm his inspection appointment tomorrow. And then he tells me that we should put the overflow of books that need to be shelved over on the counter. He has a lot of books that need to be shelved. And then he goes off to the computers to print out things for his Halloween costume. Later, while in the stacks I walk past him and gag from his personal body order. Hygiene appears not to be a concept for him today. He's always had a problem with it, but yesterday seemed to be overwhelming.
My ears still hurt.
My phone is still not making out-going calls.
The person who's supposed to relieve me for lunch is stuck in the detours from the fire and is late. I watch my lunch time tick away because everyone else is at lunch. Someone finally comes back and relieves me.
Lunch was actually a bright spot. It was beef dip sandwiches and spicy fries.
I get home and discover that the cat has decided to redecorate with some of my LEGO figures.
My ears still hurt.
My phone? Still not making out going calls.
SO we go back to the phone store and ask if they can fix it. They cannot. And I have to go to Best Buy and get some cheap phone for twenty five bucks. It's a phone, and that's about it. I miss my camera.
I get back home and much to my delight I learn that our washing machine is broken. It's not going through the spin cycle.
Hoping to relax with some D&D on line with friends, I find this too frustrating as the map server we're using keeps on lagging and dropping people. Finally, around two, I manage to get into bed.
