Well, I'm back. As Sam would say.

And it feels good.

Some vacation highlights:

CORN!
SOYBEANS!
CORN!
SOYBEANS!
JESUS!
SOYBEANS!
CORN!
CORN!
CORN!
JESUS!
COWS!
CORN!
JESUS!
CORN!
SOYBEANS!

I met [livejournal.com profile] ranka who found my family insane but in a good way.
I brushed into John McCain.
Yes, that one.
No, really.
I swear.
Beer!
CORN!
JESUS!
SOYBEANS!
COWS!

More later when more coherent. With pictures!

I learned something really shocking at WorldCon: LKH and Sharon Shinn are in the same writing group. Man! Sharon Shinn can write gigantic circles around LKH without even getting out of bed.

Well, you know, weird things like that happen.

Where was Worldcon this year?

So you went to Iowa? ;)

(I kid, I kid. I live here and even I confess that your description would sum up a drive through this state very well.)

Actually, we were mostly in Missouri. But when in Iowa we couldn't really tell the difference.

It was at the Iowa State Fair when I ran into John McCain, or he almost ran into me.

Ah. That's true - with a few areas of exception, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois do tend to blend into each other, with only a few rivers to break things up. Did you see the butter sculptures and sample some of the many varieties of fried food upon sticks at the fair?

I had a hard boiled egg on a stick but nothing fried. It frightened me and my poor Californian sensibilities.

McCain had pork on a stick.

I did not see the butter sculptures, but we could only spend a few hours at the fair so we didn't have time to look as much as we wanted to.

Heh. As a former Iowan, I agree with brainchild - that's a perfect description of Iowa (or any other midwestern state).

My mom thought all the corn was wonderful and waxed on about how it used to be like that in Los Angeles, not with corn but with some other crops, beans I think.

Still, despite the corn, Jesus, corn, soybeans and corn, we had a rather nice trip out of it.
