Sign number 8723 that I need a new computer at work:

It doesn't have a USB port. It has a floppy disk drive, but not a USB port.

Which means that I can't use the scrolling pen copy word device thingy which downloads the scanned in information by a USB cable. Which means I can't go and scan in all the really ancient books that need to be cataloged (or at least identified) before we up and move.

Solution: Get me a new computer.

Likelihood of that happening: Slim to none.

In other news, Evil Bitch From Hell may or may not be coming back from family leave.

Wow, your work computer doesn't have a USB? Wow. Most things you connect to the computer now days are almost all by USB. I mean, my grandma's computer has nearly a dozen alone. MY GRANDMA'S!

Then again, my laptop only has two. But that's two more than your works!

*mocks*

Uh..if it's your work computer you might be able to nick someone else's computer.*
Like ..Evil Bitch from Hell's? :)

*IME the powers that be hate to spend money for a new computer..but won't bother if employees hijack each other's computer.

Do you have any expansion slots free? Perhaps, if you do, they can purchase a USB expansion card for you in lieu of a new computer.

They run about $20 around here - had to purchase one about a year ago for a friend that had an older machine.

Cheers,

Ted

Yeah..what he said. ;-)

But seriously, it's an easy fix that takes maybe 15 minutes (counting the five minutes in the store to find the card). Definitely worth a shot.

No, I don't. I don't even have expansion slots. This poor computer is nine years old.

Nine years old?! Your work computer should be in a nursing home.

The computers at my work are so old and crappy that it takes them literally a week to run Scan Disk, and a whole day to shut down. So, no one does either one of those things.
