A while ago, I hit upon the idea of writing a sort of parody/examination on the girl bamfs into Middle Earth fan fiction. My reasoning for this was, "How come the LotRs fan girl always ends up in Middle Earth and the Harry Potter fan girl ends up in Hogwarts?" The likelihood of that seemed rather abnormal, so instead I decided to write a story where three LotRs fan girls did not drop into Middle Earth, but instead into my world, which they mistook for Middle Earth because to be honest everything they learned about Middle Earth came from the movies and other fan fiction.

(If you must read it -and I so need to go over it - you can find it here)

I got a review today from First Gurl Rider who wanted to know "what this story had to do with Lord of the Rings"

I replied to her saying that it was a parody/satire, basically explaining to her what I mentioned above.

Then, out of curiosity, I checked out her profile. She has four stories.

I think this is stupid. I'm posting it anyway. Stupid being the key word here. Beware, will not read flames!

Which makes me wonder... how is my story any less having to deal with Lord of the Rings than her stories having to do with Harry Potter?

OMG kippur r u flamin? cuz she does'nt read flames ya know!

*shudders*

Fanbrats think that sticking the names of the canon characters onto personality-less clones of them means it's a good story. The SETTING isn't a big concern for most fanbrats; just the relative 'hawtness'. -_-;;

I'll admit to writing some not-very-canon stories, but only the parodies! Only the parodies, I swear!

...I keep my crappy fanfics from when I was 10 up on my fanfiction.net account. They're a little embarrassing, but at least I could use a spacebar and spell. 'rite', indeed...

Also, your parody idea cracks me up, I may have to read that later.

Well, to be honest, yours has less to do with Lord of the Rings, because it's not set in the LotR universe and it doesn't have LotR characters. It is pretty much original fic.

Hers is stupid, but it is fanfic.

If you are in middle school, or high school, and you know more than some collage students, copy this onto your profile

*snorts* There's a sort of beautiful irony in there...

Normal people are weird and not very smart. Copy and paste this, if you've ever wished you could get your IQ tested, just so you could find out exactly how much smarter you are than everybody else.

Especially those collage students. It's important to be smarter than them.

Weird is good, strange is bad, and odd is when you don't know what to call someone. Weird is the same as different, which is the same as unique, then weird is good! If you are weird and proud of it, copy and paste this onto your profile.

But you just said that normal people were weird... And that's the worst brutalization of the definitions of "weird", "different", and "unique" I've seen in a long time.

Don't get me started on how much I hate these things.

Weird is good, strange is bad, and odd is when you don't know what to call someone.

What's wrong with strange? Or odd? They're bloody synonyms, for goodness' sake. =/

Weird is the same as different, which is the same as unique, then weird is good! If you are weird and proud of it, copy and paste this onto your profile.

Oh, wow, you have something copied-and-pasted from someone else's profile just slapped on your page that just about everyone on FF.net has too. I'm so impressed by your unique-ness. *eyeroll*

They do. It's annoying.

But you just said that normal people were weird... And that's the worst brutalization of the definitions of "weird", "different", and "unique" I've seen in a long time.

Oh stop with trying to apply logic, will you?

I did when I was 5. I don't brag about it, but suffice to say it explains why I went through my Suethor and massive-crossover stages without any internet exposure all before I hit 12 whereas the average Suethor keeps going until they hit 17. -_-;; However, it's just massive hubris to say "I wan' PROOF of how much I pwn everybody", especially when you can't correct the spelling in the word "college". Seek not to plumb the depths of stupidity. Seek not to find logic in idiocy.

For lo, you shall find what ye seek, and it will destroy your very soul!

Or give you a migraine.

I imagine a migraine because I've lost my soul somewhere. I put it in a very good place.

Because it sounded like you were looking for sanity in bloody LotR and HP fandom.
Which is as rare as a dodo.

RE:

In this regard I agree with [livejournal.com profile] canadianevil: her stories, regardless of quality, are HP fan-fiction, in that they're based on that world.
You story, on the other hand, is based on the LotR fandom and its clicheés, so I suppose it is..LotRfandom fan-fiction?

HOW DARE YOU SAY SOMETHING BAD ABOUT MY WRITING!

*coughs*

You have a perfectly legitimate complaint, and you're absolutely right.

I hope it won't, but this might still come out as mildly offensive.. ^__^'
For someone who doesn't get the sexual "thing" you sure seem to tread the masochistic way: LKH first, LotR fandom now..are you going to try the deep, darkity waters of band-fandom later?
Because really, really don't have the guts to go there..

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] candiandevil and [livejournal.com profile] mad_troll as well...but from what I see, your story still kicks hers in terms of quality. And dammit, you just gave me an idea where a fangirl of one series is dropped into another one she doesn't like so much...XD
