I had, in my old RP group, a Star Wars character that I really liked. The campaign died rather quickly, but I still liked the guy. So, on the LJ RPs I decided to play him. I eventually brought in his twin brother and they found some friends and life was good. Then I decided to bring in one of the other people from the Star Wars campaign's PCs. As a villain, because in my estimation the guy (Zhin-Ja) was going to the Dark Side and doing it rather quickly (despite protests from his player). He's been making a pretty good villain even if he is a twat. However the most amusing/ironic thing just recently happened. In the Nexus (where I play him) there are the LOLs which are basically things that you can have happen to your characters for amusing results, like have them change sexes or turn them into animals or whatever you can think of. In this case, for Valentines day, Forest Gump was giving out spiked chocolates. Another mun and I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity for Evil. Zhin-Ja took a love/hate chocolate which basically meant that he'd fallen in love with someone he hated and her pup took a lust chocolate. Zhin-ja fell in love with her pup and much sex ensued.

The amusing part of this is that the original player of Zhin-Ja was a homophobe. So, I have his most certainly straight PC (when he was playing him) having much buttsex -and bottoming to boot.

I have gained a certain amount of twisted satisfaction from this.





So, another RP community.

There's an Ares there who should be, instead of the god of war, the god of having sex with anything that moves. He's always talking about who he's fucked and how much they enjoyed it and how much they screamed and just everything like that. Two days ago he took KITT (yes, the car from Knight Rider) off for a "glorious night" because KITT didn't want Ares to be using his girlfriend (yes, the car has a girlfriend) for twenty four hours of sex. See, KITT made a deal with Ares that if he could become human whenever he wanted, Ares could have twenty four hours of sex and what have you with the girlfriend. (If my boyfriend/girlfriend ever said that to me, I'd dump them.) When the time came to collect, KITT wanted to renigg on their deal so Ares took him instead.

The next day KITT posts that it wasn't rape, he did it because he wanted to. No one else seemed bothered by this. I was bothered by this so I had Alec try and talk some sense into him. It didn't work. It was like talking to a brick wall. KITT kept on insisting that he did it for the girlfriend and now they'll be happily ever after.

It doesn't work that way in real life. The fact that these RPers toss it about so easily and without worrying about the consequences just utterly trivializes it. He tried to make it sound noble and sacrificing and so it was okay, but really, it's not. It's not.

I don't really know what else to say to this except that it just really buggers the fucking hell out of me.

You're right, it's not something that happens that way in real life. Not unless the person is of the opinion that whoring themselves out is fine as long as the price is right. In this case, though, I'd suggest not arguing the point and writing it off as a bit of bad RP, since no actual people were harmed.

I'd classify it as closer to whoring themselves out than rape, although there was definitely a non-consensual aspect to it. Now if the girlfriend had been the one taken, that would have been clear-cut rape, and KITT would have been the one who pimped her out.

And if I were the girlfriend in question, KITT would not want to go human anywhere in my vicinity, because I would have his balls for that, even if he did wind up sacrificing himself to make up for his stupidity.

If the deal had been "You can have 24 hours of sex with me if I can be human whenever I want," then, yeah, that's the character whoring himself out. But the deal was to whore out the girlfriend (or procure her for rape, depending on her consent or lack thereof), so it does seem to have morphed into rape. If he'd directly offered himself instead of the girlfriend, then we're kind of back to whoring out. (Well, except for the fact that it doesn't sound like the deal can be called off completely, which makes consent dubious, even then.) But if he said he'd changed his mind or that Ares couldn't have the girlfriend and Ares said "Fine, I'll take you, then" and did...it sure sounds like rape to me.

(Then again, my sympathy is somewhat damaged by the original deal. Unless, of course, the original deal was with the girlfriend's consent. I know, it shouldn't matter.)

Dur. That should be "seem to have morphed into _his_ rape." If the girlfriend wasn't consenting, it was always rape.

I see it that there was Deal 1: Ares gets the girlfriend, and then when Ares came to collect, KITT offered Deal 2: Ares gives up his claim to the girlfriend in exchange for getting KITT instead. Which KITT got himself into with his optic sensors wide open. Ares had something he wanted bad enough to whore his girlfriend/himself out for, and he found a currency that Ares would accept.

Now Ares' part in this is unethical no matter which deal is looked at: he was either going to be raping someone or procuring a whore, but that's Ares for you, he's never been a nice guy even in mythology. If he was, he'd have nullified the bargain, but he didn't, and he was technically justified in not being willing to let KITT off after having delivered his side of the bargain. Indeed, in some interpretations of Greek mythology, the gods can't go back on their bargains, which would mean Ares had to find some way to make KITT pay for what he was given, although I don't know if Ares-mun was using that interpretation. But apparently KITT offered himself in his girlfriend's place, and that was a substitution that Ares found acceptable. Consent was highly dubious, under extreme pressure, but technically (and when you're dealing with gods or characters playing such, technicalities count) it was there.

So yeah, given the information provided here, it looks more like whoring than rape to me, but the line there tends to get pretty blurry at the best of times, and depends on the interpretations made by the characters in question.

((Totally agree on editing comments. And am I the only one who feels their childhood dying at this whole conversation? XD ))

Yeah, it really comes down to exactly what happened when Ares came to collect. Still, the consent seems dubious no matter what happened. Of course, what a car-person thinks of sex could be very different than what a person-person does. Which could explain why it isn't being interpreted as rape or dubious consent or otherwise not pleasant. Eh, the whole thing was messed up to start with.

I think the moral of the story is: "Don't offer your significant others to gods for something you want. Even if you change your mind, you lose."

(Yeah. I'm trying really hard not to think about what we're discussing here. Who did what to whom with whom why? O.o)

Definitely dubious consent. Even in the scenario I offered where it was KITT's idea, it's still a very blurry line. But if KITT has decided that it was his choice, then so be it. If that's what it takes for him to live with it, then I'd say just let it lie because constantly dragging it up will only make things worse... which is probably much the same thing I'd say if it was real people involved, as long as the person in question wasn't acting traumatized. Just offer support if they need it and step away. Sometimes coping mechanisms are good things.

My basic rule of thumb is, don't offer up anything to the gods that you don't want them to collect on. Because odds are that they will.

Frankly, my impression of online RPing (and what I've heard of Nexus), tells me that it's more likely to be a case of "Interpretation? Wut?".... most RPers not even interested in taking the trouble to understand the characters they mutilate...

Reminds me of an Ares that used to frequent a chat room I played at tho. Don't remember if that guy was such a whore, but if the Nexus one has 'Angelus' the vampire as a servant... yeah...

Haven't run into that Ares, and if I had, my character would have steered pretty clear of him anyway. Athena and Ares don't get along very well, even in mythology, and my Triv is a priestess of Athena.

*rolls her eyes* Oy vey. That's quite the canon-Sue there. And yeah, there's plenty of yaoi fans - mostly the younger ones - who like those chicks-with-dicks and dubious-consent fics. But it's not just because it's yaoi, because there's plenty of romance novels out there that have the same dubious consent, although not as many as there used to be.

And not all of us yaoi-fans are particularly fond of NCS and dubious-consent fics. But some of us do like debating ethics. ;)
