kippurbird: (What goes on in Kippur's head)

This morning I was supposed to pick my brother up and take him to the train. I get to the house and as I'm walking in I get a phone call, from my brother. He's not taking the train. Frustrating that.

Still to put it all in perspective, we have a neighbor across the street. She has a son my age and we've sort of known each other our entire lives. She came by last night and wanted to talk to my mom. Apparently she almost died two days ago and she couldn't call either of her kids because they want nothing to do with her. She's very lonely and she wanted to know if she could come and talk to my mom when things started getting bad or when she feels like killing herself. Her son only talks to her when he wants her to watch his dog. Not his daughter, but his dog. Her daughter lives at home with her boyfriend for the past three years, but she's not allowed to talk to the boyfriend or ask him to do anything. The daughter also refuses to do anything. The dishwasher is broke, the garbage disposal is broke and the daughter refuses to make phone calls.

Makes the train thing see trivial and makes me thankful that my family, while utterly dysfunctional at times, cares deeply about each other and will do anything for the other if it's needed.

Also, I some how managed to set fire to my poptarts.

That's... insane. God only knows I don't talk to my mom and sisters as often as I could, but I don't shut them out of my life.

Also, Pop Tarts are remarkably easy to set on fire if you aren't careful. That surgary syrup in the center of them can actually act as a fuel if you heat them too high.

Isn't it? It just... I mean .. you may not get along with them and shit... but it's your mom! She raised you and took care of you and the neighbor was not a great mom but she cared a lot for her kids.

I did not know that.

I have to say, your family from my own experience are some of the coolest caring people I've met. Seriously.

I once set off the fire alarm in my dorm room by accidentally setting poptarts on fire.

Why would they want nothing to do with their own mum? It's bizarre if she didn't do anything that directly screwed them up... and is your mum gonna help her?

Also, sugar burns, I think. I know it's hellishly amusing to watch when you add acid to it, anyways.

They have an interesting family.

The parents started out Jewish and converted to Christianity right before the son was born. They adopted the sister who apparently had been abused before she came to them, having to live in a closet. Then dad decided that he wanted to be a she, which made the son try and prove his masculinity and start hanging out with bad people. Mom never really recovered from the fact that her husband wanted to be a woman and it just kinda degraded from there.

Really? What happens?
