Actually, I thought it was pretty clever. And no, not Paolini. Some how it just doesn't fit with his style. Chickens coming out of Cornucopias is way to silly for him.

Evil Elrond has Legolas as a slave boy. Healer Glorfindel is also in love with Legolas. Everyone is okay with the fact that Elrond is abusing/raping/etc Legolas, or at least they say that he's very honorable for keeping his word to serve Elrond for ten years. At no point does Legolas have a spine to say anything like Stop Treating me like this, or running away, or this wasn't part of our bargain.

Yes, well, Legolas has apparently all the spine of a jelly fish and as Elrond's slave has to do whatever he wants. There's no negotitating, just total submission to whatever Elrond wants.
