Some personal business... mostly because I'm too lazy to make two posts.

First of all, my cat seems to have a new game. It's call wake Kips up at three in the morning by meowing and butting his head against her boobs.

Second of all, a friend of mine, I've known him since he was five (I was older when we met... don't ask how old, cause I don't remember) he's in late high school now, and he's being sent to rehab for drug use. Apparently he's been stealing money from his parents for drugs and everything. I dunno, I don't know what to say about it. It just kinda hurts. I mean, he's a good kid, as far as I know. And I've known him for most of his life. He likes music and everything. Good with it. Perhaps not the best student, but a good Jewish boy. So... it kinda ... makes me funny. Worried. I hope he's going to be okay.

We return to Cole six months later.

He's been in the hospital this entire time. His mother has been visiting every day and so has Garvey. Cole's father has not. His father has been charged with child abuse by his mother because of Garvey making his mom feel guilty.

Cole is confused as to why she shows up. After all, why does she suddenly care about him? And why should he believe her? And why didn't she visit at night... after visiting hours are done. She comes every day and appears to be trying to make amends and he's upset that she doesn't stay past visiting hours. When it's dark and he's alone with his thoughts. And he remembers the bear mauling him, and being angry and stuff. But he also remembers the baby birds and touching the Spirit Bear. Yup, the dead birds and the bear that mauled him bring him comfort. I know it would me.

Apparently the physical therapist tells him, what happened to Cole would have killed most people. Yes. The author fully admits that what he did should have killed Cole, but didn't. There goes any trust I have in this author. He just admitted to us that he did something unreasonable and unbelievable, that his main character should have been dead, but isn't because he's just that special. And when we get to the point where the author says his character is just that special, I want to put the book down and kill something.

And apparently they're taking Cole back to the detention center to decide what to do with him. Because the circle justice failed and what not. Garvey tells Cole that the hard part is not his physical healing but his emotional ones. And I gaged. You don't need to actually go out and say it. We should learn about it not be told about it with a sledge hammer.

Garvey comes by to visit him at the jail, and they talk about the island and how Cole saw the Spirit Bear, which Garvey isn't sort of believing. He says that Cole saw something that he thought was a Spirit Bear. They then talk about Cole's dad, who also has a sob story, which we learn from Cole's mother. Cole's father was abused and insert Cliched Background here.

The Justice Circle meets and people say that Cole should be handed over to regular justice. And then Edwin walks in. GASP. Once Edwin is settled, they say that it's Cole's turn to tell his story.

Why did the Justice Circle failed? Wasn't Cole supposed to stay for a year on the island? So he gets hurt and stays only for about a week and they think it failed? I'm confused.

She comes every day and appears to be trying to make amends and he's upset that she doesn't stay past visiting hours.

Um... so that way there'd be drama? Because if it didn't then Cole wouldn't have gotten mauled by a bear? I dunno.

Who is this Edwin again?

Thank you.

Edwin is the tribal elder of the tribe that Garvey is from. He's the one that found the island for Cole to stay on and built the shelter that Cole burnt.

Ah, yes, kitties. I am amused he goes for the boobs though. Such a total guy! ;)

And sorry about your friend. I know that kind of thing can be hard to handle, once you find out about it. I'm hoping the drug rehab will help him enough to kick the habit. :I

Now... as to this book. I hadn't been peeking in for awhile, so I had to dig a little to find the first few entries. I'm glad you tag them! That made it considerably easy. :D

But... gag me. I only skimmed and actually avoided some of the entry bits, like the mouse-eating, and such. This book sounds like a cool idea gone horribly wrong. And I've never heard of this book before either. I mean, it doesn't ring any bells in my memory. I'm amazed your friend had to read it. I really, really pity them, that they were forced into it. I hope they get a good grade for it at least. ;P

Incidentally, I'm still in the midst of reading the last Harry Potter book. I was amused about Dudley's reaction, in the second (or third?) chapter. The interaction between Harry and the Dursley's blows this stuff out of the water... which is kind of sad. It's not like I ever thought the Dursley's were that impressive an element in the series before.

Also, I agree with who-ever said they think it's false logic to assume that, just because Cole was injured, the Justice Circle failed. I mean, hell, if he HAD spent a year there, he would have endured a lot of other hardships, presumably. If he had nearly starved, would they think the same thing? I mean, the group wasn't trying to teach him survival skills (although, technically, they would/should have) so the goal hasn't necessarily been ruined...

Though, I guess they figured since he was in really poor shape, he couldn't handle the rest of the year? Also, I guess they figured nearly dying would mean a mistake was made somewhere. Didn't they account for bears? Why would anyone send him to an island with any large, potentially dangerous animal also living there?

Basically, I think the whole book needed several rewrites, with improved logic.

Yeah. He is. It's just aggravating to get woken up by that. I liked it better when he slept at my feet.

I've been wondering where you've been. =D It's good to see your comments.

I agree with you. I never heard of the book either, but my friend griped about it to me enough, that I promised to do this for her. Obviously I had no idea what I was getting into. The mouse bit alone makes it a bad book - worse than Eragon even- in my view.

As for the bit with the Dursleys, I rather liked it. Especially with Dudly, it sort of showed that he was growing up and maturing. And it was much more believe able than Cole's sudden turn around.

The logic of the Justice Circle is flawed, and there wasn't supposed to be any bears on the island.

Thank you. The only way I really survived it was by whining at people and mocking it viciously.
