Dear Fashion Industry:

Please becoming out with womens clothes that are like men's clothes. That is clothes that you can actually wear as opposed to getting squished into and wobbling around in. I'm not saying that you have to stop making with the mini-skirts that barely cover people's bottoms or those pants that are so tight that you can't afford pockets, but you know it would be nice to find a pair of pants with you know... usable pockets? Like the guy's cargo pants? Or some nice tee-shirts that I can wear without worrying that my boobs are going to fall out or going to expose my midriff. And things that would be practical to wear during the winter when it is COLD outside.

Also clothes that actually fit people who aren't model thin would also be nice. I'm sick of trying to find something to wear in the petites section and not finding anything except size two really short shorts and tube tops.

Just something to think about.

Kippur.

Ditto. I´m tired of going to shop and feel depressed because I can't find anything good.

I know! It's horrible. I go into the boy's section and I'm all Ooooh... I want that, but it won't fit me. And then I go into the women's section and I'm like... uh... why do I want to wear that? And where are the pockets?

Just buy guys pants! I love guys pants. They look hawt with little t-shirts and big clunky belts.

I love guy pants. Unfortunately I'm short -petite- and wide hipped, so it's hard for me to find good sized guy pants.

Oh, tell me about it. I've got a big butt (among other things *sigh*) and it's hard to find anything that doesn't make it look even bigger. The pockets would be a nice bonus too.

I love pockets as I can't stand purses. And pockets are just neat in any case. And they have cargo like pants... but...they don't have any pockets.

I don't mind a purse - but I don't have my purse on me when I'm at work, and it would be nice if I could carry my cell with me when I'm expecting a call without having to keep it in my hand.

My mom doesn't mind purses... except that she keeps on loosing hers.

I totally agree. Clothes shopping always winds up pissing me off to some extent because nothing seems to fit or look nice on me. (I'm tall and big boned so the problem isn't just finding clothes that fit my around the middle, they also have to be long enough so I don't look too ridiculous wearing them.)

It's so very annoying. They only make clothes for a certain body types.

I think the reason why there's so many petite clothings is because there aren't that many women (who aren't anorexic or anything) who wear them. Thus, you've got an endless surplus of model-thin clothing.

Reminds me of my last trip to the clothing section. After gandering between the women's section, and then the men, I couldn't help but think to myself how much more comfortable men's clothing look. I'm going to have to start shopping in that section from now on. Hah.

Men's clothing looks SO much more comfortable. They even have breathing room. I can't figure out how women fit themselves into women's clothing sometimes.

I know what you mean. >< I'm short and biggish, so it's hard for me to find jeans that don't trail along the floor and aren't so low I can't sit down without flashing my underwear. All the good stuff's never in my size.

I hate that. Why do I want to flash my underwear? Why do people want to flash their underwear in general. It makes no sense. Why don't they just... not wear pants. XD

I concur. They never seem to have anything for the happy medium, just extremely girly and body-hugging or very guyish. I always favour mens' clothes when shopping for shirts and jackets.

I love men's shirts. But I have a very nice breast size so the shirts that would fit me don't fit across my chest and the ones that do are too big for me. :(

From: [identity profile] thelittlebudgie.livejournal.com
Agreed. Mother dragged me shopping the other day, and I went "Oooh, awesome shirts." "No, Green Bird, those are boys' shirts. Go look at those." And pants are awful. Some days I wonder if it wouldn't be less fuss to just go and get myself a tailor.

Date: 2007-05-13 05:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com
I was thinking that too! And that way I'd get pants just the way I want them.

Date: 2007-05-13 06:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thelittlebudgie.livejournal.com
Agreed. And they wouldn't somehow fit snuggly around my hips and yet stick out in back, and he wouldn't give me that look when I insisted it was too tight on one part and yet not snug enough on another.

I need a brilliant tailory name for him now.

Yes. And they wouldn't start falling down either.

May I add: please to not be stocking size 16 clothes under a huge flashing neon siren-sign screaming "OUTSIZE!", kthnx? Also, New Look, I don't know how you do it, but please to stop making me feel like a beached whale every time I walk in your door. Srsly. Do you use thinner models or what?

Date: 2007-05-13 05:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com
Oh yes. Because you know... most of us ARE around that size. Yes. We're not outsized. We're normal.

I've never heard of that store, but I know what you mean, there are so many stores that I don't even bother going in because I know that their largest size is going to be like a ten.

I'd love to have been there when the fashion industry picked this year's looks. "Half of Americans are overweight, and many of those are obese. I know! Let's bring back skinny pants!" The thing is, if someone does have a body type that can fit into those skinny pants, they tend to look so emaciated that I'd rather not look at them anyway. There's just NO body type that looks good in the damn things. [/rant]

I'm really sick of tight clothes in general. I happen to have a bit of a belly, and also, a hint of modesty - I wouldn't want my parts all on display even if I did like the way I looked. Stupid clothes designers *grumble mumble grr*

From: [identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com
Oh GOD I was horrified when they brought back skinny pants. I was like WTF? I'm NEVER going to find any good pants now.

I hate clothes shopping. And I'm also very modest and can't figure out why they don't make clothes for us normal people. Sometimes it's like they're working in their own special reality.

I wear tracksuits. They're pretty much impossible to make 'skinny and pocketless'. Only trouble is that I can't wear them outside, which sucks.

And what is /with/ all the bone-hugging jeans?

Date: 2007-05-13 05:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com
I wear jeans and tee-shirts. That's pretty much the extent of my wardrobe. And now a days finding jeans that are comfortable is nigh impossible.

Date: 2007-05-13 05:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] starsong24.livejournal.com
Eh. I blame the general 'people want to feel skinny!' mindset.

You know what the really sad thing is? I'm thin and I still can't find a pair of jeans that fits properly. Maybe it's because I'm tall too but shopping for jeans is a real pain. The jeans that are long enough are way too large in the waist so I always have to wear a belt and then the jeans bunch up in the back and stick out from under the belt...
So anyways enough about poor me. The point is, jeans don't even seem to fit stereotypically thin people like me.

I blame it on the "One type for one size fits all" mentality. It just seems to result in one standard for everybody that pleases nobody

Sensible females of the world unite against Sizism! We have nothing to lose but ill-fitting jeans and trashy t-shirts!

Oh hell yeah. I'm totally with you. I look at all the mens clothes and go, "Now what's wrong with that? Make it in my size, bitches.".

Not only is it not pleasant to see people with bits and pieces hanging out where they shouldn't be but it totally defeats the purpose of clothes in the first place. Er, dude. I'm not comfy, warm or happy. I'm constantly pulling up my neckline and being terrified in case people can see my knickers as well as neing freezing. Men have it so easy...

I guess what's worse is that I've seen little kids dress like it too... >

Date: 2007-05-14 07:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com
They do. Their clothes are comfortable, don't show off body parts and keep you warm in the winter.

Little kids dressing like that is just... fashion brainwashing.

I can't really complain because I'm a UK 8 (which is a US...4? Not sure) but I agree about flashing everything to the whole world. You, madam! Put your boobs away! D:

I don't think there's anything wrong with buying men's clothes either, just as long as they don't make you look frumpy. 'Boyfriend' tops and 'boyfriend' jeans are cropping up lately - soft and baggy. They're supposedly simulating when a girl borrows her boyfriend's comfy clothes but with feminine colours and details, so keep an eye out. :)

From: [identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com
Obviously I now must hate you on general principle. *hates* :D

Unfortunately the boyfriend jeans will only be for the smaller sizes. At least they'll only look good in those sizes. There won't be any that fit well on me. D:

I have the opposite problem. I stopped growing in middle school, so not only do I look about 12, I have to wear clothes made for teeny boppers because I'm short and small. Adult size clothes drown me.

It's so hard when I need to find something professional, like a suit, because I'm too little to fit in the clothes! And preteen and teen clothes are slutty and trendy. I usually buy clothes from the little boys (size 8-20, not REALLY little boys') section. They're made large, so I can fit in them with extra room. They have the cool t-shirts there, like shirts with dragons or Super Mario on it.
