I'm still working on Q-Squared. Funnily it's harder to do it than it was to do Eragon. I guess it's harder to say what he did right and what he's doing as opposed to picking out the obviously glaring mistakes. Still, I'm plugging away at it. I may have to switch from doing a chapter by chapter analysis to something else though. Maybe picking out things or ... something.

In other news I bought seventy dollars worth of books off of Amazon. The red and blue brick (cheap and used) cause I need them to mark up. Marking up library books is never a good idea. Then to off set this, I bought the first Dresden Files book and Sir Apropos of Nothing. And then in sheer geekiness I got the upcoming Star Wars RPG handbook. Well, my gaming group may actually do a Star Wars campaign so it's all good.

I started reading Sir Apropos of Nothing once, but I lost the book at work. What I read was quite entertaining, though, and I want to read it again at some point in the near future.

Ken's law: The more innocent the comment where that icon is in use, the more likely someone will be disturbed by it.

Nobody can ever un-see it and the best part is seeing how many people I can continue to disturb by using it for innocent comments and posts.

Oh, good: one less person to whom I must preach the gospel of Dresden. They're not amazing literature, but they're really damn entertaining. Enjoy!

Why do we pick out mistakes easier than...

Do we even have a word for doing something totally right?

I have no idea. But it's frustrating.

Because there's more to say about mistakes. You can think, 'oh, that's stupid', sure, but you can also go beyond it to think about what should have been done, how the characters should have handled it, how society should be shaped or politics should work or the economy should be set up or whatever. You can, basically, construct an entire second narrative for each mistake.

Whereas, with a success, you pretty much just go, 'oh, right on' and move on.

You bought Storm Front? Coincidence, I just bought it as well. IMO, it's crap. I prefer the TV series.

I have not seen the TV series, but several people have recommended the book to me so I decided to try it out. If it's bad I plan to beat them.

TV show- excellent. You can see most of the episodes at www.dresdenfiles.org. But the book, from what I've read, is just infodump after infodump of how magic works. Unfortunately, the people who told me it was teh shiz are e-acquaintances, so I can't beat them.

Having finished it now, it gets a lot better past the midway point, but I'm a bit peeved that I had to slog that far to get to the good stuff.

Way to go on buying used bricks; Paolini can't get your money that way. ;p

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who spends large amounts of money on books.
