So I'm one step closer to getting published.

I talked to a publisher yesterday and he seemed very interested in the project and is going to help me find an artist. It's for a comic book series called Shadowed Legacy. It starts out as a Superhero comic book and slowly morphs into an urban fantasy. I have the first five years planned out.

The main hero is named Alex Berger and he inherits an ability to control and manipulate shadows as well as travel through shadows and a shadow realm. I got the idea of the shadows from several sources but the inherited abilities from The Darkness a comic book series by Top Cow. But really all similarities end there.

For starters Jackie Estacado is a violent hitman/Don of a mafia group and works out of New York City. His power is inherently evil formed at the beginning of the Earth or something, allows him to create anything he wants but it all dissolves in sunlight, and kills him when he gets someone pregnant. Alex is an English Major (why yes I chose that on purpose now shut up) gay, based in Los Angeles, his powers were originally created as a weapon for a war, and he's not really all that violent. He also has a neat double ended scythe.

That's my drawing of the cover for the first issue/zero issue.  The guy next to Alex is Corry, his boyfriend. The gaping maw like creature is a creature from the Shadow Realms.

Well, fuck a duck!
ShadowWolf of Elven Lacryment has the same skill, minus the shadow realm thing. (I smell crossover!)

And I read The Darkness too^^ But I came up with 'Wolf before I read said comic.

Well, congrats on getting published!

Woo Crossovers!

And I'm not published yet. I just have the publisher interested in the project. Still no artist.

This sounds like something I'd totally be into! Please keep us updated on developments! :)

Of course I will. I don't think I could keep it under wraps.

And it's a great concept, if I do say so myself. The relationship between Corry and Alex is very important to the series as it develops. But I shan't say why because that isn't discovered until year three, so you'll have to wait until then to find out why. XD

I'd call you cruel for teasing me like that, but I've been doing that myself with a story I'm writing, so I understand how fun it is to torment one's readers. ;p

It's the best part. Though honestly I don't want to do spoilers for the series so far into it, because then it ruins the beginnings of the series. It's one of those things that need to evolve and change as the reader reads, so they understand exactly what's happening and why. If I were to just say it, it wouldn't have the same impact.

Which is ultimately the same reason I do that with my readers as well. :) Ah, the joys of authoring...XD

It's one of the best parts, reader anticipation.

Awsome! I'm not a comic book person, but I'll definitely have to check it out. ^_^

Comic books are Love. At least for me. They're the perfect medium to tell stories how I picture them, a melding of Art and words into something more.

Anyone who will draw it?

Heh. I'd offer, but I probably suck too hard.

I know I suck pretty hard, I can do character design, but actual pages, nope. Not up to spiff.

What you got there is awesome. Yup.

Thanks, but my ability to make paneled pages really sucks and my art really falls apart then.

Neat. I don't usually read comics but I really like your premise - enough that I'd love to read the comic.

Sounds pretty cool, so far...

Although I think I should let you know, there's another similar comic already out there, but I'm not sure offhand what has happened to it. I only managed to get the first issue, never got a chance to buy more. It's called Legacy, written and drawn by Fred Perry.

Anyways, what I do know is that there is some sort of eternal war being fought, and maybe each generation? Or every several generations... each has a sort of champion, who has inherited from their bloodline a particular Legacy of powers. There's the Wizard Legacy, which grants magic power, and the Warrior Legacy, which grants awesome strength and fighting skills. The bad guy is the Shadow Legacy, whose most significant power in the first issue is creating strong, resilient minions, usually from hapless bystanders it engulfs in the shadows.

It looked like a good story, and it was kinda funny too. Like the Legacy apparently adapts to the nature of the age... or the nature of the person. In this case, in the modern day, the Warrior Legacy is divided between twins. One gets the strength, but the other, an avid arcade gamer, gets the fighting skills... which manifests in moves a lot like from the games.

There are similar ideas, of course, but there are also enough differences between the two of them, I'm easily certain that they won't be compared too much.

Hi there, I'm an artist...and i'm interested in doing the art for your story. I found you through telophase's journal.

Here's a a sample of my work:
Common Days which is a slice of life Shonen-ai story
http://www.onlinecomics.net/pages/details/listing.php?comicID=7776

and Skinships which has elements of the supernatural in it
http://www3.telus.net/akemi/lj/skinships/critique/

let me know if you're interested in my art for the story. thanks!

I'm hoping for a slightly more realistic style for my book. Do you think you could do that? I could send you character specifications and you could work out some character sketches and we can go from there.

From: [identity profile] akemi-art.livejournal.com
well, let's try it out. I think my manga art style is pretty realistic. Do you have any samples of art as to what you mean by realistic?

Please e-mail me the character specs at akemi_art at hotmail.com. I'll get working on them for you.

hi hi, congratulations on your impending publication. Are you still looking for an artist? The two guys you drew look a little younger than than what I'm used to drawing, but on the other hand, you mentioned in your summary that at least one of them is college age...so a girl can hope. All this to say, will you take a look at my <a href="http://penguin-sama.deviantart.com>gallery</a>? I found you via a link from another lj, and your summary has made me very very curious. How does your character's scythe work? Where does he conceal it when he's living his normal life? Or are you going to turn the lack of logistical information into an ongoing joke...? Ahh, will you let me read your script? Even a little tiny bit of it? Please? I'm trying to create my own story, myself, but alas I lack storytelling training (I am an Engineering person...) So far it seems like comic/manga writing is more structure-based than interaction-based (am I making sense?) Like..._Slaughterhouse Five_ would be much easier to adapt to a graphic medium than, say, _Line of Beauty_. Ahh~ I'll go back to my corner now (red-faced and frantic)

I like your art. Would you be interested in doing character sketches? Then you can look at script. XD

The scythe has to be carried around. Alex usually will be leaving it at home, but since he can shadow jump it's easy for him to vanish and reappear with it.

Both boys are college age in their mid twenties, though Corry ages well.

I'd love to try it. Do you have descriptions of the characters? Like how tall are they, body type, hair color and style? Perhaps the most important information I need to know before drawing character sketches is their personality and the nature of their interaction with each other...

Yes, I do. Do you have an email I can send them too?
