I'm really begining to thing that stupidity, the terminal against common sense stupidity, should be made a crime. In the paper for the past couple of days, there have been articles about how people want stores and store workers to stop saying "Happy Holidays" and instead say "Merry Christmas" because they feel that "Happy Holidays" waters down the religiousness of Christmas. They have even started suggesting boycotts and suing.
The thing is, at least from my point of view, is that Christmas isn't the only damn holiday this time of year. And to be frank, I'd rather be wished a happy holiday than a Merry Christmas because my Christmas is just another day usually if a bit more frustrating because the radios play non-stop christmas carols, all the stores are closed and there's nothing good on tv to watch except the sappy Christmas movies. With all this, my Christmas isn't merry, but more like down right annoying.
The people who are proposing these boycotts and what not should realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas and not everyone wants to have a Merry One.
And if they can Sue for people watering down Christmas, does that mean I can Sue for people misrepresenting Hannuka? I mean how come no one ever mentions that I should have a happy Hannuka when I go to the stores? Why do I always find that the Hannuka stuff seems to come out around Christmas, when it may have been already over for two weeks? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find Hannuka wrapping paper in time for Hannuka when it falls two weeks before Christmas? And they never have any specials on the right sorts of foods in the grocery stores or any sort of good decorations. I think that's wrong and I should sue! Will I get anywhere? No.
Will these "merry Christmasers" get anywhere? Most likely.
And this is why I fear for the rest of the world.
