I meant to finish my novel last night. Final section of the final chapter, woo! But something unexpected happen.

Turning off the off ramp yesterday to go home from work I saw in the Best Buy parking lot a bunch of LotRs stuff. And I was intrigued. I walked down later to the Best Buy and was all "Sup?"

Theonering.net was having a midnight release party for the Lord of the Rings movies on Blueray. There's going to be a signing at midnight. Would you like a wrist band?

"Um... okay?"

So, instead of finishing off the novel, I went down to the Best Buy parking lot around ten-ish and hung out watching the trivia contest and the costume contest. First prize was a VIP trip for two to New Zealand and WETA. A girl dressed up as a balrog showgirl one. It was judged by Sir Richard Taylor on Skype.

I got my Really Nice Lord of the Rings book signed by John Noble (Denethor) and Sala Baker (Sauron).

As I'm still before my self imposed deadline, I think this is a worthwhile excursion and procrastination, except the whole now I'm asleep at work part.

Though I have to admit, I'm a bit nervous about finishing off the novel. It'll be done and then what will I do?

Once you're done, leave it be for a while. Relax. Then start the sequel--or a novel that's completely different.

And don't worry. You'll still have plenty to do with this novel once it's complete.

That sounds like an amazing thing to come across.

*cheers you on* You can finish the novel.

You could do what I did and both reread your novel lovingly while editing it a little (or edit the crap out of it if you have the strength), daydream about it, and doodle pictures of the characters. Works for me!

You know, it's funny. Normally I spend a bunch of time doodling the characters as I write, but this time I didn't.

I dunno why.

Once you're done writing your novel you will edit it once or twice, write a synopsis, a pitch letter, and start mailing agents. That's the theory anyway.

You will edit the CRAP out of that sucker! You will edit it until your head is spinning and you almost can't recognize the thing and you practically have it memorized! And then your future agent will LOVE it and send it to your future editor who decides to pick it up and gives you a GREAT BIG HUG for putting in all that extra work!... And then they'll help you edit it some more. :D

On a less tangential note, that LotR thing sounds *awesome*! o.o D00d, I would've gone to that. Totally worth taking a night off. Besides, you deserve it. ♥

It's always so strange to hear about VIP trips to WETA, when I could literally hop on a bus and be there in twenty minutes.

You could just bask in the fact that you finished a novel, which is an amazing feat? And then spend the next forever editing it. :P
