Sad little bird

Well.

Today sucked.

We had to put Patriot, our parakeet, to sleep.

Ever since we've had him he'd been a sick little birdy. First he had mites and then he just never really got better. He was always throwing up his food and he lost a lot of weight. A few grams but that's a lot on a little bird.

We took him to the vet about a little over a week ago. And the Vet looked worried. She told us to do somethings and if he got better good, if not call her. Since we're going on vacation for five days starting on Wednesday, my mom wanted to get him checked out one last time - and have him boarded at the vet.

The vet looked him over and said that he wasn't getting better. He was just chronically ill and he could die while we were gone, pining away for us. Even then he would always just be sick, sleeping all the time. There was no way to really know how to fix him and she couldn't take blood samples because he's so little.

So my mom decided the best thing to do was to put him to sleep.

I got that as a text while I was at work.

Yeah. That made work hard today.

I'm so sorry. It's never easy to lose a pet, and I can't imagine how much worse it would be to get that as a text.

I'm so sorry! I wish things could have gone better with Patriot or at least that your mom had waited until you were home to tell you. :(
