You're right, it *IS* the only thing that makes sense. It'd be much more interesting if it was explained that way too. o.o
But I'm betting Patterson intentionally forgets anything inconvenient and thus only brings these things up when they don't matter in the slightest. Like the wings, the blindness, and all that. :P
