I think as long as you make it interesting, it won't matter. Besides, it's not as if Paolini even describes the mental magic/psionics so it's a lot harder to say it came from him when it's just a general idea he wrote. I actually don't even know if he means it the way it sounds. I think he's just saying they push their will against one another to negate invisible possibilities. Again, without details it makes it harder to claim it was even inspired by him.

Plus, I'm pretty positive it isn't a new idea. Anything truly new is hard to come by. As long as you go in-depth to explain what is happening and how, apply your own style and form to it, and make it a major part of the story, it'll be great. XD
