Our new bird is an odd one. We haven't managed to finger train him yet. Well, he'll sit on our fingers inside of the cage, but we can't bring him out on our finger. Instead, what he likes to do is, we open up the cage door when we're at the worktable working on our laptops and he goes on his, what I like to call, constitutionals around the living room and play room floors. He sometimes likes us to chase him and play hide and go seek under the couches. When we do need to get him back into the cage we chase him with a towel and drop it on him. He doesn't squawk or complain one bit. It's all part of the game.
Recently we attached a rope to the cage so he can climb up when he wants to go back in. It took him a while to figure it out, but he's got it.
In fact the other day, when my mom was working and he was out and about, she saw him climb up into his cage, take a bit to eat and then go back out for more running around.
I don't know what he does when he's running about, but clearly he enjoys it a lot more than hanging out with us.
