Going down to Comic Con tomorrow. By myself. This is the first time I've ever done something like this. I'm very nervous and excited. It's a very normal adult thing to do. I've pretty much done everything by myself. Found a place to stay, registered, gotten my pass, got food to eat for lunches and dinners, planned stuff, written my paper.

I will be completely reliant on me. No one else.

Though I do know if something happens my parents are merely a phone call and two and a half hour's drive away.

Still, for an autistic person, this is a huge step.

I wouldn't call it a normal adult thing.

Most people do SDCC in groups for safety and support.

Going it alone?

That's badass.

I meant more the going by myself somewhere, as opposed to comic con specifically.

(I wish I was going...)

Heck, I'm non-autistic and I still doubt I'd go to something like Comic Con on my own. I'd just feel so terribly intimidated by the sheer size of it, without anyone I knew there...

I still won't go to my local con after last year, but that's more of an issue of The Ex than anything else.

I think it's badass that you're going!

I'm seriously impressed. That would be a lot for me to do, too. And I hope you have a fantastic time!

Also, your icon rocks.

I've been reading your journal for a while now and I had no idea that you were autistic. So, Good Job there.

And I totally agree that going on a trip by yourself is normal adult thing to do and I was very scared the first time I did it. I still hate to travel. Sounds like you are properly prepared. Good luck.

I hope you enjoy yourself. I couldn't afford it this year, myself. If you need or want any advice (places to go downtown, for example), I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

What is the name of your panel! I have friends going who I'm demanding they take time to see you for me.

Also, said friends are grabbing me a pass for next years con, so next year we can be con buddies ^_^

And stay safe. Can't be con buddies again if you don't come back from this one!

Do you live down there?

I've been going for the past couple of years now, this is just the first time by myself.

Why can't autistic people go anywhere alone?

I hope you have fun anyway! Try not to freak out too much. As a going-away gift, here is a quote I found in a book today. It's one of the very first ever copyright notices:

Hold! You crafty ones, strangers to work, and pilferers of other men's brains. Think not rashly to lay your thievish hands upon my works. Beware! Know you not that I have a grant from the most glorious Emperor Maximilian, that not one throughout the imperial dominion shall be allowed to print or sell fictitious imitations of these engravings? Listen! And bear in mind that if you do so, through spite or through covetuousness, not only will your goods be confiscated, but your bodies also placed in mortal danger.
~Albrecht Durer, 1511

They certainly don't write 'em like that anymore, and boy do I wish they still did.

Lucky you for going! You'll be fine. Going alone is nice, because you can do whatever you want to do-- there's no need to compromise for anybody else.
