From the back of Invitation to Sociology

"This lucid and lively book, punctuated with witty, incisive examples...."

Lucid? Are books generally not lucid?

While I realize completely forgetting about reading Eragon probably was an act of mental self-defense on your part... ;p

Actually, in all seriousness, a lot of sociology books/papers tend not to be all that lucid. Sociologists are not writers, don't endeavor to be, and just generally don't care if their works are written as well as they could be. Other sociologists will still get their ideas because they think in similar fashions using similar terms and phrasing.

*looks at old college texts*

Actually quite a few books are not at all lucid, badly organised too, and rather confusing as they use different translations. At least if my Computer Science books are anything to bo by, the people who wrote those were in dire need of an editor.

One word: postmodernism.

Two words: purple prose.

Three words: No clear thesis.
