Speaking as the father of an autistic child, if some bright boffin came up with a pill that would magically make Thomas "normal" (whatever the fragg that means), I'd give it to him without a second's hesitation. But I'm never going to love him less for what he is, and I don't consider the state of his mind some sort of curse or disease. It's just what he is, and I would prefer whatever teachers or others who help him along the way to regard him as a person, not someone who is "afflicted."
