Let's play "Get Kippur Smashed!" or The Da Vinci Code Drinking game!
So far we have:
Take a drink every time:
* A name has a "cute" meaning.
* Someone does something idiotic.
* A character begins a rambling monologue.
* Something happens, but you're not told what.
* He gets something utterly wrong.
* The truth is precisely the opposite (make it a double).
What else should we add to this?
How smashed can we get me? So far I've been averaging about four drinks a session which isn't nearly enough. So come on! Give me suggestions!

The plot hinges on the exact wording of a translation of the original text.
He mentions the Knights Templar, Masons or any other organization rumored to be the secret rulers of the world.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to pick that one out, but sure!

I think it's a case by case senenrio

Date: 2007-09-18 06:38 pm (UTC)Also, this may tie in to the "hidden agenda," but I think Brown mentions the "secret Vatican library" or "secret Vatican archives" a lot. How about a drink every time the words "secret" and "Vatican" are seen together?

Date: 2007-09-18 09:17 pm (UTC)Can we add one for every time it's a) an incorrect or false-premises translation or b) a complete translation of an incomplete text? (I realise these are both technically part of 'getting something utterly wrong', but messing with languages is really irritating)

Date: 2007-09-18 11:09 pm (UTC)I took a course or two on manuscripts in college. It's pretty amazing how many errors could creep in when a new copy was made (and that doesn't include copyists who took it upon themselves to add in/guess at illegeable text/lacunai).

Date: 2007-09-18 11:26 pm (UTC)Also, I don't know if you've taken a drink for this particular "cute" name, but unless I'm completely stupid "Fache" is a slight twist of a French word that means "angry". Considering the character's initial description, it seems kind of like Brown is trying to be cute.
(This is fun! This is even more fun than terrorizing my high school Algebra teacher to the point where she let us read Da Vinci Code in class for 6 weeks instead of actually TEACHING on the vague premise "it had something to do with codes". Oh good times.)

Date: 2007-09-19 02:59 am (UTC)And whenever a villain does something Stereotypically Evil (killing off his henchman who Knows Too Much, etc.).
Any time Langdon has a flashback that shows How Totally Awesome his class is.
Any time the novel becomes just plain boring (that should get you sloshed fast :D)
Any time Brown appears to be writing one-handed. :P
Any time that somebody comes up with an obviously cliche excuse and everyone buys it.
Any time the villain angsts about Needing To Tell The Truth To All.
- Any time the hero does the same, make it a double.
- And a triple if they later decide NOT To Tell The Truth To All.
That should get you sloshed fast... :D
