Apartment photos! With commentary!

This is the kitchen. Not much to look at. Not a lot of counter space, but it seems to be working. There was a problem with the dishwasher for a bit, it was horribly clogged, but it's fixed now.

The living room. Nothing much in it yet.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Fergison above his tank. The water has to sit for about twenty four hours before he can go in. So, he'll go in tomorrow.

Dinning room. The table used to be in my parent's house. Then it went to my brother's condo. And then it came back down here. It's well traveled.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My bathroom, in a rubber ducky theme. Yes. A rubber ducky theme.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

View of my room from the closet. My bed is the busiest corner in the room.

And view of my closet from my bed. That empty wall will soon have a art table on it.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My bookcase and dresser. The sad thing is that I've got room for maybe ten more new books. And then I'm going to need to get a new bookshelf.

And here's Chaucer, He's under the bed hiding. But he's been coming out and looking around a little. Which is a good thing. It'll probably take him a while to get used to the place.

It looks like a great place.

Here's something strange about me; just by looking at the photos, the first thing I noticed was how different the place smells.

Hm, I spy some D&D books on the bottom shelf with the Eragon bricks. Perhaps we could see some photos of what you have in the shelf?

I spy with my little eye some PRATCHETT. Either that or I'm blind.

Thanks. It will be a great place once everything is completely set up.

I believe the bottom shelf has Harry Potter beside the D&D. (And there's a lot of Tolkien on the right of the top-most shelf.) I noticed the Red Brick on the second shelf, where Inkspell is. But where is the Blue Brick? (And yeah... I work in a bookstore. I've gotten good at recognizing the spines of a variety of books.) XD

How can you tell what the place smells like?

Yes those are D&D books but the Eragon bricks are on the second to the top shelf The ones on the bottom are Harry Potter.

Yay! It is! No one is stealing my food and I can walk around naked ... if I really wanted to.

From: [identity profile] dove-cg.livejournal.com
No, no! I believe you are correct. Pratchett practically owns the fourth shelf, from the looks of it. :D

Date: 2007-07-01 10:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kippurbird.livejournal.com
Nope, that is Pratchett, an entire shelf's worth. XD You're the second person who's pointed that out.

I'm glad Chaucer was able to come with you. Everyone should be able to have a cat with them at all times. :D

Also, I know the feeling about shelf-space. Well, even more so because I HAVE run out of room... but I need to figure out what other walls can be taken up by new shelves before I am actually able to buy more.

(Damn you, Livejournal! Why won't you let me edit comments?!)

How can you tell what the place smells like?

I can't, but my instinct tells me that it's different. I swear I think like a dog on the rare times I visit other homes.

The ones on the bottom are Harry Potter.

Wow, the Potter books are huge.

Oh, have you thought of adding GURPS to your collection?

The blue brick is next to the red brick, but it's camouflaged as it's the movie cover. And yes there is a lot of Tolkien on the top shelf, next to my Shakespeare. (Something that no good lit major should be without.)

It does smell different. :D

They are! And I'm missing book four as friend is borrowing it.

I only add books that I play in and I've never played GURPS (saves money and shelf space) though my current DM had GURPS. I've got from left to right: Star Wars, Star Wars Saga edition, Shadow Run fourth edition, 3.0 D&D manuals and then 3.5 manuals,

You know what's really weird? I had a much older woman, with completely gray hair, tell me she thought that Paolini's books were much better than Rowling's. I guess she prefers Tolkien-esque to Modern Setting but even then, it just made me wonder a bit. I didn't ask her why she thought so. I didn't want to get into it with a customer (especially since I really didn't care. I was just a bit dumbfounded that she felt that way.)

*forgot to add that she squints at the photo once more*

Ahh! Yes, there it is. That's pretty good camouflage there. I keep forgetting that the Blue Brick is in paperback and that any sensible person (who didn't prefer hardcovers to the point of obsession) would buy it in paperback instead of the prettier hardcover. Though, they DO have the non-movie tie-in trade paperback available. Didn't you want the pwetty, if absolutely useless, dwagon on it? ;D

I can't, but my instinct tells me that it's different. I swear I think like a dog on the rare times I visit other homes.

I think it's because most apartments that have been empty for awhile, tend to smell clean, if a bit musty, and semi-new. (They've had some time to air out? Heh heh.) I imagine it's a matter of remembering your own new apartments, if you've ever lived in any. :D

I for one think that Spring, in North Carolina anyway, has a distinctive smell. Or at least, the air feels different. This would be when the weather is still cool, before it gets muggy, and I think the air then smells clean and fresh to me. (Mostly because I don't have allergies, I bet.)

I've also had the semi-misfortune to smell something very musty and sweet before, in my youth. I don't know what it actually is but it was strong enough to detect and I have always presumed it was mildew (though I have a feeling that true mildew smells a lot nastier.) Oddly enough, I equate the scent with pleasantness. I think because it wasn't overly pungent and because the smell reminds me of when I would lounge around the house as a child and read (usually old comics or books.)

... And I like the smell of ferret, though I can't quite describe that either. But it's somewhat distinctive. Musky, I guess? *shrugs and stops babbling now*

Awww, Chaucer looks so content in that last one. He seemed like the type who would get used to being moved fairly quick.

Nice place you've got, too.

Kitchen looks okay - not exciting, but reasonable. Better than the kitchen in my old apartment did, although I think that was a bit bigger. Living room reminds me of that apartment, though - kind of a blank slate.

I rather like the rubber ducky theme, it's very cheerful and colorful. And Chaucer looks reasonably okay with the change - he'll get used to things pretty quick, you'll find, once he gets used to the idea that his old place isn't home any more.

Hey, you have the same bookcase as me!

I believe I espy Lackey's Exile's Honor and Exile's Valour on the second shelf from the top, and Sabriel and Lirael on the third. Possibly some Terry Goodkind, too?

Nice place! I hope you get to enjoy it for a good while.

I think it was more the flash, but he seems to be doing better now. He's still not used to the idea that he doesn't have to stay in my room all the time. Though when I am in the outer rooms he comes looking for me.

And thank you. I like it too. =D

I need more counter space I do. Plenty of cupboard space, but not enough counter space which'll make it hard to cook.

I do too, but it clashes a bit with the sort of dull brown tiles.

I hope so, he seems to be doing better in the bedroom. Today he explored the bathtub. XD

Did you get yours from IKEA?

Yes, you do. And Abhorson is up there too. And Terry Goodkind is behind the owl and the lightsaber.

Well, seeing as how my parents own it and I'm getting cheap rent, I think I will stay there for a while.

Isn't IKEA great? Especially the stores where you'll never get out directly. =D Though putting together the stuff is a bit O_o sometimes. At least they have very good instructions.

They're quite fun. We put together my IKEA desk for my birthday a few years ago... Sometimes you need to improvise a bit on the instructions, though.

I totally spent fifteen minutes trying to read the titles on your book case or guess at them from the spines. You have the same Unfinished Tales book that I do.

Are those Jasper Fforde books on the third shelf from the top? Ooh! And I totally see some Terry Pratchet. And what appears to be the two Alberich centric Mercedes Lackey novels, which were the only two worth reading. Along with Inkheart and Inkspell, which were two of the most beautifully written books I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

You have excellent taste in books. I swear, if I didn't already have you friended, I would friend you just on your bookshelf contents alone.

Oh yes, and the idea of a rubber ducky bathroom is just too cute for words.

It would have but I was at the registers at the time (part of why I didn't care. I didn't need angry people in a backed-up line, even if I had a few people on some of the other registers.) The other thing, though, is I was afraid my natural instinct to argue my side would have kicked in, which would have been additionally time-consuming and fruitless anyway. Though I may have just shaken my head. All depends on what she might have said. *shrugs* Then again, I'm a little afraid to hear her reasoning. It might have made me irate (more irate than usual anyway) and I don't need that. XD

That's evil! You could most likely get away with it (as long as the book was still in salable condition) but it's still lying... heh. Also, I don't recall if there's any price difference between the two. I'd imagine not but you never know with slightly different copies. ;) :)

But seriously, you're right. As long as the Brick is cheap, it really doesn't matter. :D

(Honestly, that cover wasn't so bad. After all, the actual acting and story can't seep through as well in a single image.) XD

That would make some sense. :)

We actually have some relatively nice framed prints covering a good portion of our living room walls though (nothing expensive but still nice to look at.) And a huge window in the bedroom. We can probably rearrange some things (and even block up that window! We don't really use it) but that takes time and effort... hence the lazy resort of piling them on the coffee table, desks, and floor. XD

I want to learn GURPS, so I can play GURPS Discworld. I've thought about running a Discworld campaign in D&D, but it'd take some doing (unless, of course, someone has already made stats for the gods and major characters).

As Pterry says, "if you have enough book-space, I don't want to talk to you." Those shelves have plenty of wiggle room: just stack the paperbacks instead of lining them up. If you want, you can even go two-deep with them.

P.S. lovely apartment. I may steal the rubber duckie theme if I get my own place.
