kippurbirdSo, story about my grandfather, my Guv (my mother's father).
My Guv was a doctor in Los Angeles, one of the few doctors there at the time. And he was a very good doctor and diagnostician. People would call him up from all over to get his opinion on things. Some people would refuse to go into surgery unless he looked at them first or was there at the time. He saved a lot of people's lives.
This made him somewhat important and then Governor Regan elected him to a position on an important board ... of something. A Governor's board. He helped develop the test that RNs had to take to pass the State Board exams.
Eventually he got invited to the White House for lunch with the President. Nixon I believe. He got to meet the President and his wife with a bunch of other important people.
And while he was there, he stole a punch glass.
This pretty much sums up my Guv.
We still have the punch glass.
