This is just because you were too nice to Paolini. Karma is punishing you for being nice despite the fact being horrible would've worked out better for him.
I got so pissed at one point I tossed my keys down the stairs and they ended up under my car. My only thought on this was better the keys than the cell phone. Especially since the phone was the one giving me the problems by dropping the call for five times in a row.
