Can't be worse than the American Red Dwarf pilot, from what I've heard.

This is going to be epic. Whether that's a good or bad thing, I'm not sure yet.

(Bets on the queer characters being written out? I'll start with $20)

I'm not taking that bet. Too obvious.

This is going to hurt to watch, if it makes it to broadcast.

Uh, they tried that. It got us Paul McGann as Eight and not much else.

I, for one, cannot wait to see what happens! OH, it will be a DELIGHT! A WONDERFUL FUCKING DELIGHT!

Torchwood could use fewer cardboard, exploitationist characters, anyway. Fox is guaranteed to do that.

Doctor Who... well, I'm not liking the new doctor, and
I generally don't mind remakes or alt. versions, especially in the face of the original looking to disappoint.

I'm sure neither will happen, though, and I don't think either will be all that great, even if they're not bad. Though, it's possible for the later: after all, American Office is miles and away better than the British version.

Possible for the latter*

Agreed, it's what puts me off Torchwood. I hate it when people can't tell the difference between fair or equal representation and doing it for the sake of titillating an audience.

I was very happy to see that the non-Kippur reply to my comment wasn't combative, you have no idea. Well, maybe you do, since you might have been on that side of an argument before.

I quite agree with you: that's how I've been looking it, myself. It is so the latter; that was an issue I had with Queer as Folk, as well. I think the only other writer or producer I know of who does something similar is Joss Whedon, so I'm iffy about his stuff for similar reasons.

I think it's really difficult to get the feel right when it comes to LGBT characters. For example, I thought Sugar Rush was brilliant- it got a little silly sometimes but I didn't ever feel like it was there simply to say "GUYS LOOK TWO GIRLS MAKING OUT SO HOT".

Whilst doing it for the sake of titillating an audience isn't exactly good, I find it much more tolerable if it's tongue-in-cheek or the show or its fans actually acknowledge that's what it's doing. A lot of TW fans would jump on me for suggesting it.

I'm reserving my judgments on the new doctor until I actually see him in a full episode.

After all, everyone was up in arms about David Tennant when he became the Doctor and now look at him.

Well, the thing is, I had no problems with David Tennant to begin with, so I was okay there, myself. I actually dislike Matt Smith as an actor in what I have seen him in (admittedly, not much, but he's not terribly experienced to begin with).

I'm unconcerned. Fox never gives their sci fi much of a chance anyways.

Topless Robot had, I think, the best take on this one: "Fox Ready to Air, Fail to Promote, and Immediately Cancel U.S. Version of Torchwood."

"Fox Ready to Air, Fail to Promote, and Immediately Cancel U.S. Version of Torchwood."

And we have a winner.

Why? Does the occasional British jargon/pop culture reference/etc. really make it inaccessible to North American viewers?

I just...don't get it.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a more international focus, anyway. I don't particularly care about Cardiff, myself, and it's a boring setting for me. Others might feel the same. The show is too localized, and a global focus would bring it to more people.

Amongst other things that people may be hoping for.

That's a good point. I've never really cared for Cardiff myself either.
